“No, I’m not an American. I’m one of the 22 million black people who are the victims of Americanism. One of the 22 million black people who are the victims of democracy, nothing but disguised hypocrisy. So, I’m not standing here speaking to you as an American, or a patriot, or a flag-saluter, or a flag-waver — no, not I. I’m speaking as a victim of this American system. And I see America through the eyes of the victim. I don’t see any American dream; I see an American nightmare.” -Malcom X 1964

I mean it's not a myth it's just social democracy. The part that most people don't get is that maintaining it requires extremely strong unions and constant vigilance from the working class.

The “middle class” is just semi-proletarians and the petty-bourgeoisie. You see the headlines the middle class is shrinking and that is just the proletarianization of those two groups (and other smaller segments) as the explicitly bourgeoisie and capitalist extract more and more from the proletariat.

Since middle class isnt really a marxist category, afaik, i was using the colloquial definition of owning your own home, kids going to college, 2 cars, ect. I was talking about standard of living. Because what im describing used to be possible for the american proletariat
