I remember thinking similarly of the very early episodes of Yugioh Abridged/The Nostalgia Critic when I rewatched them, but they got better as it went along and I think DBZA could be the same.
Alot of internet entertainers at the time overly-relied on meme references (Which obviously age very poorly most of the time) for their humor, but as time goes on and they get more experience, they usually improve and learn not to rely on them as much at least.
