The message of Inglourious Basterds is that killing Nazis is very awesome and good and we should do more of it

I love that the movie even punishes the main nazi, even though he's supposed to be the "good" one who makes a deal with the good guys and surrenders on peaceful terms. Movie is like nope. He's a fucking nazi forever.

So many people seem to miss that. Ok! So the Nazi is brave! That's great! Also still a fuckin nazi.

        :bonk:

The bizarre adoration and misunderstanding of concepts like honor really get to me.

Like dude, he actively enabled nazis and was a nazi. There's no honor in that existence just because you decide to arbitrarily apply principles.

That's why I like Brad Pitt's character. Hans Landa is educated, speaks like 5 languages, is principled, and even offers mercy a few times. He even completely betrays the Nazi high command and allows them to get burned alive in the movie theater. Aldo does not care. Carves a swastika in his stupid nazi face anyway, because he's a fucking nazi.

Didn't Tarantino explicitly say that movies like Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained were meant to right history and the whole point is it's meant to be a cathartic experience where you get to see the bad guys get their just desserts?

i mean, death of the author or whatever, but yes. hitler and his henchmen literally burn to death from the celluloid -- it's a declaration of the power and righteousness of art.

as the work itself says, its his masterpiece.
