I love that the movie even punishes the main nazi, even though he's supposed to be the "good" one who makes a deal with the good guys and surrenders on peaceful terms. Movie is like nope. He's a fucking nazi forever.

That's why I like Brad Pitt's character. Hans Landa is educated, speaks like 5 languages, is principled, and even offers mercy a few times. He even completely betrays the Nazi high command and allows them to get burned alive in the movie theater. Aldo does not care. Carves a swastika in his stupid nazi face anyway, because he's a fucking nazi.
Didn't Tarantino explicitly say that movies like Inglorious Basterds and Django Unchained were meant to right history and the whole point is it's meant to be a cathartic experience where you get to see the bad guys get their just desserts?

Tarantino starts playing this Morricone shit like its a wild west showdown of bravery and ideals, the nazi gets to brag about how brave he is and then just as the music swells he gets fucking clocked in the head with a baseball bat, no music, just hollering in joy at smashing in this worthless nazis fucking brains, he probably shat himself just to add to the humiliation. The whole point of inglorious basterds is "we are, in real life, showing how much better our cinema is than Nazi cinema."
The climax of the film is the nazi cinema(the actual physical place run by a Jewish woman in hiding, commenting on "yeah even Nazi cinema cannot divorce itself from wider cultural roots, which historically had a lot of Jewish people in cinema" )being utterly obliterated by badass Jewish fighters ffs.
People misread it as "oh both sides are the same" but both sides are doing the same thing (produce movies) one side just kicks the others ass at it.
Not just that though. The whole film centers around cinema, or at least images in the cultural context. The part most directly divorced from the cinema plot has
- nazis absolutely terrified of the golem myth
- former conscript who waged a terror campaign against nazis
- a Jewish American re-enacting ⚾️ baseball- im not just being cheeky, the reenactment and the other basterds calling it entertainment is important
- the swastika carved into the guys forehead as an inversion of the power of the symbol
- the "heroic german soldier" dying an absolutely unglorified death and then his subordinate immediately telling the basterds what they wanted to know, because he just watched the mythos of the heroic German soldier get destroyed

There's a very intentional 3/4ths second shot right after the first baseball bat hit to the head. The Nazi is still alive, actually conscious, and has his hands loosely stuck forward and is shaking. That's the giveaway that your line here was the conscious intent.

Do people actually say the same about Django? For whatever reason, people completely misunderstand Basterds but I dont see it with Django. I guess there's just a lot of nazi propaganda (clean wehrmacht), as well as reddit's insatiable desire to respect ALL soldiers.

In my view, everyone is human except those who view others as inhuman. Those people, in their hate, cut themselves off from what it is to be human. In dehumanizing others, they dehumanize themselves. The first hit with the baseball bat was very forceful, and to the head. He wouldn't have suffered, it would be instant unconsciousness. The other Nazi they killed in that scene appeared to be shot in the head.
