Kinda wonder why china bothers with all the belt & road stuff, the path to global domination is right there, it's making gamers unable to buy more than one game at a time

Oversized children having their toys taken away from them, but now they have to make up conspiracies about why they are so upset.

The "women want to take away your videogames" shitstorm might at least have a connection to reality of them being mad at their mom.

As opposed to this newly unhinged position

Every fervent anti-China poster I've seen on Reddit spends a lot of time on gaming, meme, and political subreddits

It definitely is. People who are vocally anti-China off of Reddit are usually pmc types who consume a lot of MSM, business types who lean hard into libertarianism, and boomers who frankly hate anything outside the US.

It’s so arbitrary. Epic games is a capitalist institution and therefore it’s not doing anything out of the goodness of its heart but it gives shit away like candy. It gives really good triple a games away every month and on the game dev side they’re constantly releasing free assets and buying tools and making them available for unreal engine. The new character creator they just released is pretty remarkable and not too long ago they made a partnership that lets you use tons of photogrammetry assets for free.

The only thing they do that sucks for gamers is buy exclusives but that’s your capitalism at work baby. All consoles have been doing that for ages.

I will never understand why redditors are so eager to gobble down whatever pathetic opinion has obviously been manufactured for them, and then act like it’s the most important shit on earth.

Because it's real to them. Like, downloading an application that doesn't work to play a game that doesn't work during the spare time you don't really have with money you probably can't afford to spend. And then being pissed because you're the latest person to be duped by the Release Me From This Corporeal Hellscape industry into thinking this will give you some form of psychological relief from the psychological strains of modern society.

Epic sucks. Their games are overpriced and bad. Their marketplace app is bad. And anyone who got suckered in by the slick advertising only to be thrown into the pit of garbage products feels real distress and experiences sympathy when they read about other people having distress - even performatively - online.

it came from other trustworthy users, and couldn’t possibly have been part of a campaign to give them an intensely negative opinion about something as pointless as the epic games store.

I'm confident it's not the first time "Why does this crap product suck so hard when the machine that took my money worked flawlessly?" has crossed someone's mind.

I just don't understand having a years-long meltdown over a video game store. Like why is this such a big part of so many redditors' personalities. Just relax dude, take your free game, or don't, and stop getting so mad on the internet

It really is wild how fucking rabid some Gamers get about Epic like yeah, Epic is a shitty company in general (like most companies) and they've deliberately made their store awful (since they already have a full-featured, highly usable marketplace in their launcher for UE4 dev assets; the game store in contrast has the barest minimum of features and is much less usable) because some business school cultists decided it would sell more, but they're also doing a lot to subsidize independent and hobbyist devs with free assets, grants, and flat payouts to primarily indie devs for primarily old games through the free weekly game giveaways.

I don't think I'd ever call them "good," but they're at worst no worse than Valve and certainly nowhere near as bad as EA, Ubisoft, or Actiblizzard. And speaking of unusable launchers, has anyone complaining about the Epic Store ever used Origin or Uplay? Like the Epic Store is lacking features and is a pain to try to find things in if you don't know exactly what you're looking for, but it actually works. Origin and Uplay just straight up barely work under ideal conditions, and Origin breaks constantly and refuses to work at all.

Reminder that Valve tried to monetize mods at one point, has absolutely no standards when it comes to allowing trash on their store, and is involved in a lawsuit over threatening devs offering lower prices in other places. Also, does anyone actually care about the lack of features? Not having a shopping cart seems bad only for buying dlc but the rest of the trash steam has is beyond useless, excluding a friends list which they all have.
