It's still pretty messed up that they nuke the last place country off the face of the Earth, but I guess they govern differently in Europe.

I'd say the artist doesn't deserve any blame because of what the country does but she's literally in an IDF military band. Also Armenia and Cyprus aren't geographically European but culturally yea so you can kinda justify these and israel. They should add palestine if they're gonna have israel but they're not that cool

        geographically European

Europe isn't even a distinct continent, we're sitting on the same continental plate as the rest of Eurasia, and that plate reaches from Portugal all the way to Japan. Viewing the Bosporus and the Urals as borders has always been a cultural convention, not a material fact.

Europe isn't real, it can't hurt you.

For some reason mayos get butthurt when you say Cyprus isn't part of europe

Cyprus is generally considered to be geographically part of Europe. It's all a matter of definition anyways.

IIRC entry to the contest is based on whether you use a certain broadcasting platform or w/e based in Europe, so I think North African countries have competed before.

It really does makes no sense because Germany and Spain are amongst the most populous countries in that list and good music comes out of them all the time, you'd think they would be able to make something good.

What do you mean, Spain is always amazing .

For real though, it is because they automatically qualify for the finals without going through semi finals. That's why their songs always suck.

Not even that really, there are periphery countries which participate, even a couple of third world countries every now and then. As I said, it is weird.

Damn, I always like their songs if only in a “so bad it’s good” way. I feel like they should be better at this.
