      Sandman does indeed rock. It basically has no reason to be set in the DC universe. If it had been published with any other publisher it would have been fine as a series without Martian Manhunter randomly showing up for three pages.

          Vertigo is DC's brand(imprint) for more mature works that features more 'adult content'

          They put out some really good stuff under it, Transmetropolitan :spider-mad: for example, and Sandman obviously

        I'll admit I'm not a big comic book geek, but I think the incidental placement within that universe, with its decades of existing material provides a really interesting opportunity for Gaiman and other writers to synthesize all of it into a sprawling cosmology. It certainly helps that DC as a rule isn't as insistent that the stories in the universe be tightly bound together as Marvel is, in my experience.

        Didn't they like completely abandon the DC crossover shit after the first story arc of retrieving his tools? Those early volumes are always a bit weird to go back to cause the justice league just exists here as a normal thing for Morpehus.
