If I had a nickel for every time Shining Path allowed a fascist dictator named Fujimori to rise to power, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice

You can’t even buy a gum ball from a vending machine with two nickels. Thanks Biden for the inflation

This would be the second time this year that a vote boycott would cost the left the election. Same thing happened in Ecuador, tho there for more understandable reasons maybe. Oh well, hope he still clinches it

ecuador was rough because the "indigenous cause" has been split (mostly usurped tbh) by a CIA plant (yaku pérez)

of course that split wouldn't have been possible without the terrible relationship between correa's party/development decisions and indigenous populations

Are there more than idk 1000 shinning path members in Peru that are committed to the party line? Back then when they were an actual% of the population sure, but now? This smells much more like classic election book cooking

It’s kinda of insane how the Peruvian bourgeoisie have basically said it’s “democracy vs communism” and everyone older than 35 buys that framing

people at the age of 20 also believe it. a guy from peru in a gaming discord server is saying he's going to move to america if the commie wins and whenever he talks about the election i just feel weird and stop talking for like 10 minutes (not cool enough/too lib to actually debate people's positions, especially those i don't know very well)

To think I was so optimistic about Latin America last year. Thank you Biden. Things are really back to normal :doomjak:

100% in 30 years time it will be declassified that the random Shining Path massacre leading up to the election was in some way influenced by the CIA.

      That was so fucking convenient

It turned out exactly as I predicted. Peru is still a fairly conservative country with a fear towards leftism thanks to Shining Path being dumbfucks. The fact that it close is a good sign, but we're not even sure how long Keiko will last. Peru has also been pretty unstable lately so who really knows

Michael Roberts in his latest blog says they're poised to have a stable, moderate recovery as their mineral export economy benefits from the developed world's economic recovery over the next year or so. So whoever wins is going to get credit for it despite it being almost entirely external because the national bourgeoise have hollowed out their economy.

"Peru’s Castillo calls supporters onto streets as exit poll points to razor-thin lead for rival Fujimori"

Good. He might win but if not, not gonna go down without a fight

I hate that its so close. In coin flips, evil turds always have an advantage. Here's hoping good prevails and also that Fujimori fucking dies.

It would be cool if the Marxist-Leninist party actually did like, Leninist stuff if they lost, instead of just accepting defeat.

Bolsheveks didn't let no lost vote stop them from building the first socialist state
