I'm trying to be less extremely online, someone fill me in
Based on what I've seen on this site --
Those allegations aren't new, they've been floating around for a while. I think someone traced them back to one particular right-wing forum, but I don't remember the post and don't have any links to verify that. Someone made a Twitter account the other day alleging to be the underage girl in question. Idk if they've provided any new info that's verifiable and not part of the already-existing body of alleged info. I'd hope that people in his circles would make an attempt to reach out to this individual and get additional verification like what happened on this site with that one doxxing/allegation event, but to my knowledge nothing has been made public about an investigation.I'm assuming that account has received many DMs from members of the media.
There are people who think it's a fake allegation because it's a new Twitter account but honestly I wouldn't feel comfortable using my regular account for something like that either.
I think if it was fake they'd be a little more specific about what exactly went down - there is persistent ambiguity around certain details gives me the feeling its genuine, but the person is trying to make it seem more significant than it is?
Specifically around how old she was at the time. Ok so the essay was about when you turned 16, but like, were you 16? 17? 18? 19? You were in your childhood bedroom, but were you a child? Stating your age is very easy to do, but implying your age in these roundabout ways makes me tilt my head a bit.
Admitted I haven't read everything she posted, so maybe she has been more explicit about some details.
And FWIW I have no interest in defending Virgil, I think he kind of sucks. I have no problem believing he's a rapist. The rumours have been going around for a while so I've always imagined there's a probability he is.
And FWIW I have no interest in defending Virgil, I think he kind of sucks. I have no problem believing he’s a rapist
Uhh that's kinda fucked. Not the best attitude to have tbh
Why would it be good to have a problem with believing somebody I've never met is a rapist?
Cause it trivializes rape and rape accusations to put it bluntly.
"Wow I've never liked him I have no problem believing he's a rapist" is the inverse of
"Wow he is a stand-up guy, I don't believe he's a rapist at all"
Not having a problem with believing something doesn't mean you believe it. It just means you're agnostic on it. It's what you should be.
There's better ways to phrase that then lol
I have no problem believing I'm going to get a raise tomorrow implies to me that I'm inclined to getting a raise tomorrow, not me being agnostic about it
A really sad truth is that a lot of abuse/rape victims are also really really bad at actually explaining their story or what happened to them in an understandable manner so it makes things even harder to figure out.
Which I mean is fair enough, they aren't often professional writers and they're going though trauma, I find it difficult to write about stuff that happened in a concise manner even without the emotional pain attached after all (not even to mention that a lot of victims are picked for the reason that they aren't good at communicating and the abuser feels more safe from that) but it's still a pretty big issue in that actually getting any important details can be like picking up pieces of a puzzle except they took two separate ones and threw them on a floor together.
Just to put a slightly finer point on it, as far as I can tell the accusation is that in his early twenties (before Chapo) he had an improper digital relationship with a sixteen y/o. Not saying that as a defense, if anything framing it like that makes it more believable, but there is definitely a range of sexual improprieties and this is on the near side of that from words others have brought up in this thread.
