Yeah sure, clear more land for development, Australia, it's not like the lack of trees will dry everything out and raise temperatures in a place that is already dangerously hot. What's a heat island? Oh, look, fire!

Oh, you didn't even clear those trees for anything important planned and just stuck up a sign saying "new industrial opportunities!" Boy, that sure was worth cutting into a previously protected forest and killing a bunch of endangered koalas and quolls for!

Oh look, the slop warehouse you replaced that native forest with has a koala for a logo! We sure love our national icons! I wonder where all the real koalas went?

They're not idiots, they're just ghouls that value their interests. It may appear short sighted, but I think the pandemic showed this too, how you can't even use the bourgeois state to preserve capitalism because that means admitting that using the state to benefit proles was always an option, and that threatens them both short and long term.

From what I'm reading about the covid inquiry from the UK, the people in charge are in fact gigantic idiots. Seems like a lethal mixture of naked corruption and callous ignorance.

I used to think the ruling class, while cruel and malevolent, at least had a plan. I don't just mean "make number get bigger," but some grander scheme they generally agreed upon.

Not really. They're just a bunch of selfish assholes that mostly coexist with each other because of shared contempt for the poors, but slapfight like teenagers during very petty slights.

I used to look around at my peers in high school and have the sudden realization that, oh shit, one day we’re going to have to run this society and be the parents and leaders and teachers and whatever. This realization struck fear into my heart.

Now that my generation is older and becoming parents and leaders and teachers and whatever, yeah I do not have any more trust in these people than I did in high school, tbh probably less.

Currently stuck in a walled bougistani compound in the arid, exotic deserts of so-cal and I can report the people running this planet are the most banal idiots you can imagine. It's bad enough seeing all the destruction wrought, and then you see what they actually bought with their blood money and it's just the most banal shit imaginable. They're doing all this horrible shit and they're not even having fun.

Ever get invited (so they can gawk at the member of the poors in the room and have an audience for their own meritocratic autoerotic tales of perseverance and individualism) to an actual wine tasting event? Shit sucks. Don't recommend, not even to get a buzz. Not worth it.

One of the wisest decisions I ever made during my wedding planning was making it alcohol free; made everyone I didn't like leave early and those I cared about stayed the entire time.

That sounds like a damn good idea. Did the guests know about it beforehand or was it a surprise? I feel like if I were doing the planning, I'd make it a surprise, just to avoid certain guests bringing their own supply ahead of time.

There are no adults in the room. Any interpretation of the world that imagines a hyper capable cabal of elite individuals pulling the puppet strings is too optimistic. It's a poorly organized mass of individuals chasing down the rewards from perverse incentive matrices that ultimately cause more harm to both themselves and the world around them

This is a big part of it, at least here in the states. Jesus is coming back like, tomorrow, so there's no reason we should reduce profits by taking care of the planet.

I'm not talking about all the clown world shit the right does, but looking at the fact that our overlords have decided for us that their yachts that they purchased from their ill-gotten gains are worth causing a climate crisis over. Older generations when quizzed on it, will respond with "Well, I'll be dead before climate change effects me. I'm going to pollute because....YOLO!"
