Like with the Trump and Russia thing, if you point out all this stuff is technically supposed to be under democratic civilian control and the President is supposed to be able to make any alliance their voters are okay with it's like people's brains break down. The concept that you as an American are supposed to have a say in who is and isn't your enemy is completely alien now.
