Maduro is like, extra not authoritarian. The PSUV has an institutionalized process for divesting its power into communes and maintains a multi party democracy despite having come into power by military coup.

Ah, yes. How could Venezuela oppose the US. Our presidents have been so generous with the number of sanctions they've placed on Venezuela. It takes a special country to earn the attention of the US for so long.

We haven't tried to coup them since, what, 2019? And they had a nice ~15 year break before that!

In this context, it meant that the members meeting with Maduro was officially recognized by the organization.

and in another news story less than 24 hours from now, it will mean the exact opposite when used the same way

        "we sanctioned CPC officials"
        "we sanctioned DSA members"

Reminds me, I was just reading about the root word for the prefix xeno- can apparently mean either guest or host

because of that I was confused when I saw this post and thought the DSA punished people for meeting with maduro... glad to see that didn't happen...

Fuck yeah this is a great line to draw in the sand. Imperialism must be stamped out of any socialist party. I unironically want to see more of this, to see the national chauvinists out themselves and bring America's exported misery to the forefront.

You never get a good answer if you press them on this stuff. Like with the Trump and Russia thing, if you point out all this stuff is technically supposed to be under democratic civilian control and the President is supposed to be able to make any alliance their voters are okay with it's like people's brains break down. The concept that you as an American are supposed to have a say in who is and isn't your enemy is completely alien now.
