Hope you enjoy your agonizing death from the upcoming super-covid! :)

We're in this for the long haul, and the only way this flight's gonna end is in a 600 mile an hour vertical nosedive straight into the ground, but the libs are making a dash for the doors like they just heard the seatbelt sign go off after arriving at the gate.

Edit: I am so sorry. I did not know that complaining about everyone abandoning masks because "COVID is over" would incite such backlash. Fuck me I guess. This was all a personal attack and not in any way a criticism of a broader trend. I'm such a doomer. Anyway, everything is fine

You’re still doom posting. Delta variant doesn’t get you that sick in the unlikely chance that you get it.

We’re going to be living with this for a long time whether we like it or not and so we have to figure out a way to live where people don’t go insane from being shut in forever. People are going to die. Lots of them. That’s what happens when you have capitalism and civilization and climate change all pushing humans toward a mass extinction event.

The plagues of the coming decades will make covid look like a warm up exercise.

The collapse is coming. Mad Max is coming. Stop trying to delay the inevitable by importing everyone to stay inside. It’s too late. Have a drink.

I didn’t say to stop doomposting.

I said to stop trying to get people to do something about what you’re doom posting about. You can’t. It’s a fucking plague. One killed 1/3 of europe once. It happens in human civilizations that have expanded unsafely.

ITT: :LIB:s who want to blame individuals for everything vs :gigachad-hd: who know that blaming individuals does nothing but make people hate you and it’s more revolutionary to blame the systems that at root created the problems individuals are merely acting within the constraints of.

Oink oink i want to live a life that includes things that don’t make me want to kill myself every day.

Oink oink i can’t because capitalism and civilization has created a hellworld of climate change and plague.

Oink oink i just want to consooooooom relationships and sociality and food and drugs like every tribal person in all of human evolutionary history.

            OINK OINK.

Yes, I was totally celebrating poor people dying, that's exactly what this is. Completely unironic, obviously.

Asking people to do the bare fucking minimum isn't "shaming"

I guess it's bad now to call out the people who want covid restrictions gone (the people this post refers to) because leftism means you cannot ever criticize individuals

      Mask mandates are public policy

Mods bring back the downvote button. These threads always suck and should be confined to struggle session. It’s just two sides being very mad about shit they can’t control and getting their egos wounded so they’re just angry enough to vague post and start another one of these threads. Shit sucks :PIGPOOPBALLS:

I started as That Guy before the governor enforced restrictions. I’ll continue to be That Guy now that literally no one wears them in my area unless they’re on the clock in a service industry job (and even then it’s hit or miss)

You still need to wear a mask even with the vaccine. It's an utter failure of our public health services that people think otherwise

I can clearly remember some public health person---Redfield, maybe; p sure it was not Fauci---testifying in Congress (I think) like last fall/winter, saying that even when the vaccines come around, he would still be wearing a mask because not everyone can be vaccinated and the mask is simple and effective.

          But here we are now.

Some people literally can't — my wife is immunocompromised in a way that getting the vaccine would potentially be very dangerous for her. And covid would probably kill her.

With all the restrictions lifted and people like you refusing to do the bare minimum like wear a fucking mask and socially distance, it's even more dangerous for her to go out and about than it ever has been. Between the lack of evidence that vaccinated people don't still spread covid and the unvaxxed people who lie so they don't have to wear a mask (the vent diagram of anti maskers and antivaxxers is a circle), the more infectious variants circulating, plus cases rising again and hospitals strained, it's really much less safe for her. We basically haven't left the house since last february. And we're lucky that I can work remotely and we can get by on just my income — if she had to keep working her customer service job after extended UI got rolled back with all this shit going on, she'd be dead by now.

The rollback of mask mandates is a public health policy failure. And it's not lib to shame people for their personal choices when their personal choices actively endanger those around them.

What kind of health problem makes it so you can’t get the vaccine? I haven’t heard of this before. That sucks for you guys I’m sorry.

Where I am there are mask mandates in stores and on planes/airports etc still. Everyone still has to wear masks indoors.

Autoimmune disorder that can be triggered by regular immune responses and causes issues like the rare-but-very-serious vaccine side effects, which require long-term stays in the ICU, brushes with death even when the healthcare workers aren't super strained, and literal multi-million dollar hospital bills.

Yeah there's no mask mandate here anymore whatsoever and I live in a "good" part of the States. The attitude is pretty much just "well just get vaccinated if you're so worried" because it's available, and a big fuck-you to the people who can't (who of course are the people that covid is most dangerous for). I get very angry about it.

I’m sorry to hear that. What precautions did you guys have to take before covid started? I assume other viral infections like colds and flus can also be super dangerous.

I'm autistic and I get the cues thing, but you can still pick up on cues while you're wearing a mask, it doesn't go over your eyes

Tbh I'd be on board, would much prefer reading and displaying a standard set of facial expressions than trying to decipher them or figure out what the appropriate ones to make are on my own. Would unironcally be a huge accessibility win for my autistic ass. Seems good all around as long as they can do facial grammar stuff for sign language

This brought up a memory from SW: KOTOR or maybe some other sci-fi of a species that uses words to denote tone and emotion in spoken language (and written, I assume). But yeah, watching the Mandalorian and then wearing a mask in public, I came around to the idea pretty quickly for fully enclosed masks/helmets. Having a display on the front would be a cake topper though.

What the fuck do you expect people to do? Like seriously, my wearing a mask means jack shit when I'm in a grocery store with 100 people not wearing masks. For a group of people that are supposed to understand systemic issues people on this site really act as if the <15k people here are going to make any meaningful difference in COVID at all.

I still wear a mask btw, so everyone can fuck off with the inevitable comments about that. I just don't particularly like feeling crippling anxiety from a website that's supposed to be fun and friendly.

Sorry, I got a little heated there. Like I said, these posts just give me heartburn because I know there's nothing I can really do and shouting into the void only seems to serve to make me feel worse.

I think I may have misread, and that's on me, but IMO it would be more productive to specifically focus on the loosening of restrictions rather than people's reaction to said loosening. It just seems like you'll sometimes get these reactions from people like myself or a few others in this thread where they think it's THEM personally that is being attacked, even if you have no intention of it coming off that way.

I don't particularly want to tone police though, and I definitely need to work on sometimes coming in way too hot with my immediate reaction instead of taking a step back and thinking about what else could be meant by something. Sorta a left over :LIB: tendency that I've been working on.
