I mean, it was the largest war in human history, fought on every continent, involving every major world power, fought over many years involving a lot of big and small things, where we have memoirs of soldiers and commanders who only died a few decades ago. I am personally somebody really into history, though my interest is far more 1400-1900 than ww2, but like I totally get the large focus on ww2.

and as much as it is parroted they only care about ww2, many many armchair historians are obsessed with the Roman empire too, American ones love the civil war a lot in my experience. but like, ww2 is just a very accessible topic on a modern event still within living memory

Fun fact: in his time, Mussolini was considered a genius, the smartest man in any room he was in. Basically like Obama. After the war, there was this alchemy and suddenly he was transformed into a buffoon, a moron who couldn't do anything right. Kind of like how Dunkirk was transformed from a major defeat into a great victory in the public mind.

mussolini just doesnt have as good PR cuz nazi racism resonates with anglos better. easy to forget that anglos (and nazis) used to despise southern europeans.

mussolini wasn't a worthy adversary or a person anglos secretly like

Mussolini's fascism lacked the race component of Nazism. Thus it doesn't benefit anyone to fluff him up an enemy to be remembered. It's like, name a single wartime Japanese other than Yamamoto...most people can't.

I think WWII is very interesting. My family was living on the eastern front so it’s kinda a personal living memory for me.

Why are you interested in that period of history?
