"Two dads, one toy, zero prisoners." "Where is your Christmas spirit?" "He got two! He got two!" "Put that cookie down! Now!" "Shouldn't wear fur."
Sinbad and Schwarzenegger are awesome! We also had Phil Hartman! (RIP)
I love it as a Christmas movie, because it is very realistic (cynical). I heard some people do not like it? They must gotten too much eggnog!
Very good point! But it is a licensed movie! Jingle All the Way is the legendary original Intellectual Property!
For the Marvel Heads out there it's also the first cinematic appearance of Thanos. Check out Jake Lloyd's blanket
Die Hard kicks ass, but I really do not like that the cop who shot a kid found redemption by shooting a terrorist!
A terrorist loosely based on a leader of the Baader-Meinhof Group, AKA Red Army Faction, who were extremely based West German Marxist-Leninist dissidents. In the novel, Gruber and his associates are attempting to steal documents from an oil company to expose them for funneling money to Pinochet's military junta. I guess the filmmakers decided that was a little too sympathetic.
Die Hard is copaganda in general with the whole "everyman hero cop saves the day" shit
Critical support for showing the rich people as out of touch unlikeable losers, I guess.
Yeah, it also has the 80's Japanophobia with the CEO talking about how Pearl Harbor failed etc.
Yeah it sucks that so many action films have so many asterisks like that on them.
WDYM? It is a completely apolitical movie about guys being dudes and justice being served, nothing says "The Holiday Spirit" more than that
Unironically I love Jingle All The Way. Like you said it was a super cynical movie that tried to push a non consumer message just at the VERY end but not really. It had some good bits in it and anytime I mention it people have either never heard of it or thought it was bad. Out of all the “modern” Christmas movies it’s this or Elf and Elf has been beaten to death.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is also good, although some of the bits have aged very badly like old comedy usually does.
I used to like Scrooged when I was younger, but with what has come to light about the lead actor, probably won't watch it anymore though.
There are not too many Xmas movies that strike the balance that JATW does.
The whole cookie scene is fantastic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhjOOEgqzjo
