It's so funny because I remember when the vaccines were first being rolled out it was touted as an extra layer of protection on top of your mask, social distancing, lockdowns (lol), hand washing etc. Then like a month later the CDC was like nah, just get your vaccine then go back out and party! Now everyone is totally shocked how massive 4th of july celebrations were a super spreader event.
The covid response has really been a great reremovedtion of any right libertarian ideology.
Vaccine hesitancy is one of the largest externalities right now. Those that dont get a vaccine benefit from herd immunity (if we would ever achieve it), and have so much to gain from increased vaccination rates. They reap these benefits from others getting the shot, without having to get it themselves. A classic free rider example.
But worse than that, we see that there will very likely be an escape variant, eventually making all of this effort pointless entirely.
I checked on some libertarian forums to see how they would handle vaccines as an obvious and deadly externality, but of course they've entirely bought their own lies. "Vaccines are a personal decision, im worried about the government forcing me to get a shot, etc". Literally nothing about these extremely obvious problems we will face.
Eh the vaccines will fix everything.
(the vaccines don't fix everything)
Oh shit, oh fuck!
me sowing: haha yes
me reaping: fuck no!
