I'm leaning towards cringe but heart is in the right place?
I’m all for doing whatever it takes to piss off your polysci teacher
The poly sci teacher getting pissed about it strikes me as an "and then everyone clapped" thing
For me, it's usually when conservatives or libertarians start yelling at me from the back of the classroom. You're making it a worse experience for everyone else, and why did you sign up for a class about Marxism if you don't want to learn about what that actually is or means?
It has the verbal cadences of cringe even if the content is based.
pretty much this. needs a better name but otherwise based
That's where I landed, it's not wrong and can be useful but it's also a mouthful and when referring to stuff like police murder stats and domestic stuff like that I think POC is more useful than global majority. Depends on the topic at hand
Cringe as fuck. Combining all non-white people into a homogenous blob is exactly what white supremacists want. There is literally no reason to combine such disparate groups as Africans, American Indians, east Asians, etc into one cohort solely based on a lack of whiteness, to do so is to define them by their whiteness, their lack thereof. Just like "white" is a fluid concept based on racist pretenses that exists solely to exclude others (from Irish to Italians), "non-white" merely describes those who have been excluded. There is no ethnicity of global majority. The global plurality is Han Chinese.
Feels like this is just giving ammo to those chuds who claim that white people are a persecuted minority.
White people are a minority. Its silly how poc have been gaslighted to think we are less than what we are.
Women of Color is a self applied activist term. I'm all for flipping ideas like "minority populations" on their head, but if there's a mainstream term that was invented by black socialist femninists, I'm going to keep using it.
People of the global majority could also just refer to women, no?
"People of the global majority"
Are you lumping Africans, South Americans, Middle Easterners, Indians, and Chinese together?
It wont make sense to a general audience probably, which doesn't help when attempting get people to understand things better. If used in the right context, like if you say "people of color, the global majority" it could work well. I just feel like if when talking to regular people it's best to do the least amount of explaining unless they ask you to, people's eyes glaze over pretty quick if someone they don't know well is trying to explain something and they're not completely vested in the conversation. If someone just says "global majority" expecting someone to know right away they mean people of color, the point might not be conveyed as well
refer to them as "regular people" and refer to all the moneyed honkies as WEIRD. Western/White, Exploitative, Industrialized, Rich and Delusional.
even without getting into the inflammatory acronym, white people will fuckin' lose their shit if you put them in the "abnormal/other" category.
as a gag, I'll start telling a story and make sure to describe the white people in the story as "white" (without ever describing anyone else's pigment), and white conservatives will always freak out and say it's racist to do that. at which point Ill say, "I don't remember what the other person was... they were probably just regular."
This is the way to go. It's like how cis people get furious if you imply trans people are normal and cis people are abnormal.
