His Business Manager took the money and ran, leaving him to pick up the tax bill. He had most of his assets in real estate...in 2007, so he lost about half his net worth that way, because he had to pay a decade of back taxes at market bottom and didn't have enough income to cover his loans.
He did spend outrageously though, and he's worth about $25million.
I think he just blew through it all, made bad investments, and wound up owing back taxes to the IRS. He's either still rich or he rebuilt some of his fortune, but he takes jobs relentlessly to stay ahead of his creditors.
