It's great, I would highly recommend it. Nicholas Cage has been a meme for years and his financial situation means he has to take every shitty role he's offered, but he's on his A-game in this one. He gives a beautiful and moving performance.
That movie came at me sideways and got right between my ribs.
Without spoilers I'll say this - it's not Taken or John Wick with a pig.
PIG spoilers
during that scene when nic cage cooks for that dad, and the dad starts crying, it took me a sec but as soon as i realized that THAT was THE meal that the dad and his son were talking about the entire movie, it started pulling at my little heart man
very thankful it wasn't a john wick action movie but with a pig
:sicko-wistful: thought you were gona talk about a pig encounter irl
how did his financial situation get so bad? can't he call Uncle Francis?
His Business Manager took the money and ran, leaving him to pick up the tax bill. He had most of his assets in real estate...in 2007, so he lost about half his net worth that way, because he had to pay a decade of back taxes at market bottom and didn't have enough income to cover his loans.
He did spend outrageously though, and he's worth about $25million.
I think he just blew through it all, made bad investments, and wound up owing back taxes to the IRS. He's either still rich or he rebuilt some of his fortune, but he takes jobs relentlessly to stay ahead of his creditors.
all these lower budget/indie movies he's been doing also let nic cage kind of do whatever, and when he's good he's good. i fucking love mandy, colour out of space and now pig.
This comrade grew up pretty much right next to that old castle Nic bought in like 2008 (I think). Oddly enough one of the biggest US bases in Europe is right next door, so Nic could've had company. (before that it was one of the biggest Wehrmacht training grounds, heh)
The whole village was like super excited for him to finally make his 1st visit, and then he had to sell it like a year later without ever having been there once. Bummer, man, didn't feel too good about Nic back then.
I fucking loved Mandy. I still have The Color of Outer Space on my harddrive too. Saving it for the spoopy season.
Is the fine dining industry in Portland really like that? I've been to a fancy restaurant in Portland and none of that shit happened.
I saw it in a mostly empty theater, it was really great. it was moving, loving, well paced. I enjoyed the shit out of it.
Is it basically the plot of Mandy but it's a pig instead of a lady?
Nope. You may get that impression from the trailers, but it's actually an intimate little drama.
Cage gets a lot of shit for taking just about everything thrown at him, but I find it wonderful.
