    It really depends on where, but if you enjoy anything to do with the outdoors, especially harvesting/growing your own food (berries, fish, moose etc), it's hard to beat. I've only lived off the road system (and only in the summer) and there are a lot of things that suck about that (cost of food/fuel, availability of utilities/phones/internet) but all of my friends that have lived in Anchorage/any of the smaller towns in Southcentral and the Kenai Peninsula have only great things to say about it.

    My spouse spent a good bit of time living off the grid in Nome with some first nation people there. She loved living out there but hated her time in Anchorage.

    Least favorite thing was the mosquitos, sounded terrifying tbh.
