I think it's because anti-communism is a hegemonic belief. Anti-communism is something that is shared by all the 'respectable' academics, political analysts, celebrities, etc. Therefore communism is seen as unworthy of debate, so it's useless learning anything more than a strawman. If communism becomes more popular I think its opponents will be forced to come up with better counter-arguments
