"All Cops Are Bastards" doesn't preclude that cops are incapable of performing any good action - it's meant to portray the fact that cops serve the interests of capital (not the people they contend to "serve and protect") and that the systems of policing vehemently oppose any effort to change that fact (don't take it from me, ask a former bastard cop).
And even in this instance it is much more likely that if the Portland PD didn't have a non-intervention policy, they would spend their time tacitly supporting the Proud Boys against the anti-fascists considering that is what they've done at every opportunity up until this point.

In a German speaking "leftist" subreddit people were dunking on Chapo for "if the moderators would've done their jobs, they would still be on reddit" and argued for not leaving :reddit-logo: cause you have to be on the same platform as liberals to be able to influence it.
I could almost see that argument, but haven't they heard of brigading?
Plus, that sub was neutered the very second we all got the first warning. I remember some people advocating for not changing and getting banned, since we all knew it was going to happen, and others wanting to play along. I was solidly in the "not changing" camp
I don't really think they were interested in material reality of the thing, but preferred their idealized picture of reddit being a neutral space.
I wish I had saved the notices given, but that is what some of us here call 'bullshit revisionist history'. The notices the admins gave the mods were pretty indicative of the fact that nothing they could do, outside of fundamentally censoring/altering the discourse to such a degree to neuter the whole project, would have saved us from the ban hammer. This is particularly funny because the sub quarantine solved the only real rule we broke, which was 'brigading', even though that technically wasn't what we did, it's just that their definition of 'brigading' is so large as to incorporate the practice of pinging chuds on our subreddit.
However even after quarantining us, the sub continued to grow, though not as rapidly, so eventually they had to put a stop to that.
