No link because I found this image, went to look for a link, and discovered I blocked her a while back. I decided to view her tweets anyway, to find the link, because I am not a lib, but there was too much stupidity to trudge through. She's praising Bill Maher for liking the US, and comparing him favorably to "today's left." That's too much, man.

    Not a linguist, but isn't patois distinctly a Jamaican/Carribean thing? Unless it has a broader definition as a word than I'm aware of.

      I thought it meant any mixture of two languages. Like Spanglish.

      I never knew it was culturally appropriated. I'll have to stop myself from using the word in the future.

      it's typically used for Jamaican English yeah, but I've heard it used for other Caribbean islands with black diaspora populations and how English gets creolised
