In about three weeks.
Nancy Pelosi Announces Vote On Bill To Codify Roe v. Wade
The House is currently scheduled to come back into session on Sept. 20.
Jesus, do the dems fucking suck.
A Senator is going to whisper the word "filibuster" and the Dems will throw up up their hands and give up immediately.
It's the world's most insane and destructive parlor game. But the dems are addicted to it.
Now, I might be wrong, but if Row v. Wade is codified into law doesn't that give the supreme court, that just ruled in favor of abortion restriction, the option to declare it unconstitutional at the first possible opportunity?
If the Democrats had any fucking courage, which they do not, they could literally disallow the supreme court from ruling on their law. It's called "jurisdiction stripping" and they can just do it.
I didn't even know that term until you mentioned it: jurisdiction stripping.
It would be pretty funny if the dems make a Herculean effort to get through the senate, it passes, Biden signs it, Biden gives a big, "important" speech right after, and the very next day the GOP justices call it unconstitutional via the shadow docket.
The only solution here that's actually sane is that Biden and the dems pack the court. But of course - they'll never, ever do that.
There's a joke about caulking the wagon somewhere in there.
Since the emancipation of the Negroes, the distinction between the two parties has been diminishing. The fight between these two parties has been mainly over the height of customs duties. Their fight has not had any serious importance for the mass of the people. The people have been deceived and diverted from their vital interests by means of spectacular and meaningless duels between the two bourgeois parties.
-Lenin, The Results and Significance of the U.S. Presidential Elections, 1912
Much more profitable for both sides if they just fight over it every election
How pathetic we've come. When I think doing something in 3 weeks isnt as bad as I thought. They've been so performative lately. I swear I thought they were going to put pillows under there shirts as some form of artificial support and call it a day.
Has Biden said anything about it? I know he had a shitty record before inauguration, but I'm wondering where he's standing on this.
You'd think he'd do something to appease the liberals mad about Afghanistan.
My prediction is that the democrats will not wield state power on behalf of people seeking a more just world. Instead, they'll abdicate their power to a handful of large corporations with a presence in Texas. This law will probably be overturned, but it'll be when a company like Lockheed Martin threatens to move a large office to another state, citing difficulties with hiring.
it’ll be when a company like...
I hadn't thought of that. And now that I'm considering it - that might be the only way the dems actually start to fight.
This hurts business...
It'll be like Coca-Cola fighting for voting rights in Georgia, as long as you're not voting to join a union.
These companies do the state's job, and gradually they've become the state.... or at least that's how it appears to me.
She looks straight up like Death. The sunken dead eyes that say she’s been taking the souls of human beings for millennia.
Only thing that will save reproductive rights long term is a constitutional amendment.
Heres a 2011 Jacobin article which opens that can of worms.

Which is on about the same horizon as a proletarian revolution
I think you just need a federal law that protects the right to an abortion.
[sarcastically] just hold the baby another month, ladies, what's the problem!?!!!1!?
