    Less than 1 hour actual game. The game clock can still run while play is stopped (under a set of circumstances that take forever to learn), so there is less than 1 hour of action in any given game

      Oh sure, I was just going by actual time (4 15 minute quarters). IIRC, I think someone actually did the math on this a while back and it came to less than 20 minutes of actual action (i.e. play is actively happening)

      ha, clock management itself is a prized skill in the NFL, so much so that coaches are ranked by how well they can manipulate it. It's a crucial component of the game that fans actually praise when it leads to a win.
