Bro so I went to the game on Sunday, right. I drank a couple of pisswater light beers, got real fuckin loose. Then right when the team came out they started playing Enter Sandman. I got chills bro. It was so fucking epic. They were walking out of a tunnel and the music was playing, I haven't seen anything like it. I was proud to be an American for the first time in years.
Soccer (real football) won't work in the US because there is no time for commercials
No way you just gotta superimpose car commercials on the field during small breaks, like in mexico
Eh, they manage for Formula 1, but of course there are ads all over the track.

‘13 Americans died so you could eat that meal’: Afghan ‘refugee’ at Fort Bliss gripes about dinner selection
I'm sorry, I can't eat this. That's just... not enough. :fidel-cool:
damn i really though virginia tech named their team the honkies my first read through
Also that tweet that says "how could you not love this country?" not because "this country" is doing anything good for people and improving material conditions, but because a bunch of assholes are singing along to some song at a football game. Like, does he think other countries stay seated and watch their sports events in silence or something? Absolute fucking brainworms
CW: transphobia
:mao-wtf: why is there transphobia in here??? what does the subject of the article have to do with trans issues???
IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE WATCHING FUTBALL FOR 3 HOURS*, U AREN'T A REAL MAN
breakdown:
1 hour stoppage of play
1 hour ads
1 hour actual game
Less than 1 hour actual game. The game clock can still run while play is stopped (under a set of circumstances that take forever to learn), so there is less than 1 hour of action in any given game
ha, clock management itself is a prized skill in the NFL, so much so that coaches are ranked by how well they can manipulate it. It's a crucial component of the game that fans actually praise when it leads to a win.
Oh sure, I was just going by actual time (4 15 minute quarters). IIRC, I think someone actually did the math on this a while back and it came to less than 20 minutes of actual action (i.e. play is actively happening)
Something something sports teams I guess. Or just general chudliness
when i was younger, i used to watch the college football because that was the thing everybody was into around me. it was interesting enough because i could read the formations and play types, and in college shit's looser so weird option and trick plays are more likely than NFL. flea-flickers, screens, laterals, fake punts. i lived for that bullshit. show me the razzle dazzle.
when all the CTE shit came out, i stopped watching. i should have known better in the first place, but i didn't. once everything came out, i naively assumed the sport would die. i am ashamed and disgusted that people still watch it. i think all of the owners, head coaches, and athletic directors should be in prison.
99% of deceased, tested NFL players' brains were positive for CTE. 99 fucking percent. 91% for college+high school and 21% for high school only. i get really heated about this. i talk heavy, awkward shit to any remaining "friends" who still watch it. i refer to it as "concussion ball" and ask them if they noticed any "sweet" hits that locked somebody into a future murder/suicide.
My favorite genre of article: I saw some tweets and wrote this article about how mad I am. Also here are some tweets I agree with.
Keep in mind that you can dislike sports (and criticize people going to a huge sporting event in the middle of a pandemic) without slipping into reddit-style "le sportsball" stuff. That's the equivalent of edgy internet atheism. There's a way to present the same idea that doesn't strike ordinary people as weird and offputting.
You want to stay in touch with the working class? Well, a lot of working-class people like sports, or will just say "I don't really follow that" if they don't.
I didn't mean to direct this at you individually, sorry. But yeah, playing is way more fun than watching.
- Played across the globe
- You don't need too many people to do it
- Not a lot of equipment required
- Easy to play at less than full speed/when you get older
- Great cardio
- Low risk of head injuries
Probably the only big downside is height being such a major factor.
