I'm old enough to remember a guy running around the country promising "Hope" and "Change", claiming that we need a popular people-powered revolution to bring about sweeping economic reforms, and advocating for a large grass-roots organization to overturn a stagnant and deteriorating national regime.

That guy was absolutely full of shit and walked away from all the cool rhetoric as soon as he was sworn in (twice, because god forbid some bow-tie nerd question whether you followed the rules). But fuck, it was fun to believe better things were actually possible.

the thing i remember is believing he was genuine right up until the moment he nominated biden for vp. i held out hope for a little while that it was a ploy to manipulate party leadership, and then he just never closed guantanamo, and started bombing weddings and hospitals and pine nut farmers. but i recall a solid couple of weeks i thought things could turn around.

Back in 2008, I honestly had no idea why Biden's nomination was significant. He looked like a sop to the centrists rather than a broker for the plutocrats. In retrospect, I probably should have known better. But I was high on that "Anybody But Bush" drug, and Obama seemed like a far more attractive option than Clinton (nevermind McCain). So Biden didn't bother me until much later on.

he just never closed guantanamo, and started bombing weddings and hospitals and pine nut farmers

Yeah. The Gitmo thing in particular was just so nauseating. After all that Unitary Executive bullshit Bush had employed with abandon, it seemed downright trivial for a decent human being with Presidential authority to finally lance and drain that shameful sore on the American conscience. But year after year, long after the whole Congressional do nothing charade had turned into a sick joke, he just kinda organized another commission to question the logistics of thinking about the legality blah blah blah.

Literally all that asshole was good for was another package of excuses. Absolutely worthless piece of shit.

When Dems whine about DeSantis I like to remind them that he got started in GITMO. Obama was such a fucking failure. I remember when talking about climate change he brought up how his daughter was very distressed and her friends had questions and she wanted to know what to say. I am sure he thought his answer was salient because he repeated it. It was some bullshit about "well if we can't avoid 2C we will try to keep it under 3C.

The man basically told his daughter that we are fucked and asking for an unfucked future was meaningless. I can understand saying that to a child you don't know Ala Feinstein but saying it to your own kid is a special kind of fucked up.

Liberals insist that republicans are fascist, taliban, compromised by foreign agents, undemocratic, and evil and that only the Democratic Party can protect democracy. Yet they will still allow the republicans to operate and hold contests with them every 2-4 years.

      One party communist government? BAD!

Convoluted “liberal democracy” where you allow the people you consider undemocratic terrorists to hold power and negotiate with them for bread crumbs even when you’re in control of the country and military? GOOD!

I absolutely hate that word in english. I grow up reading and hearing that "partyzant" is a guy who kills nazis and blows up their stuff. Bipartisan should be just two of them. And now every time i hear that word in english it's always US ghouls agreeing on some ghoulish shit.

Not true, Trump would get rid of Roe!

And he'd saber rattle with China, increase the military budget while we're not in any declared wars, bump border security's budget, entertain deals with the other party to send Ukraine more weapons in exchange for more xenophobic border laws, he'd deep six student loan forgiveness, he'd let states pass all sorts of transphobic bills

"Difference of opinions" is the worst fucking phrase to come out in the last decade.

People literally saying you just don't like Biden, or Trump, or fucking kanye because of a "difference of opinions"

Love to ask these dipshits of they'd have a problem with somebody driving around their neighborhood with a megaphone saying they fuck kids and somebody should kill them would they have a problem with that.

Oh why just because you have a difference of opinions on the matter of whether or not you should be extra judicially killed?

At this point all you can do is turn it back around on them. You and Biden have some differing opinions on lots of stuff.

Like genocide, and whether or not there's any chance you'd ever vote for him.

Biden is literally paving the way for Trump to deport and abuse even more immigrants. His policies are so bad that even liberals are starting to cry about it, but not because it’s bad, but because Trump might use those policies instead of Biden.

I don't know about this guy, but its seems like a lot of these older liberals have no idea what's going on in Gaza. Its willful ignorance, because you can just pick up tiktok and you'll see everything, but a lot of the talking points surrounding the election have not changed much outside of the spheres where there's actual coverage of the genocide. honestly it was jarring, i had myself a little thread yesterday and it felt like i'd gone back in time to September.

I think you're being rather kind. There's certainly probably some people who have zero idea. But THIS guy who is terminally forever online (he's a 2016 era Trump reply guy liberal) knows exactly what's happening. All these war mongers that thirsted for Iraqi blood like David Frum and Matt Y (however you spell his dumb last name) and are now doing the same for Gaza and have done the same for every war since Afghanistan and Iraq and further back depending on age... they know, they like it, maybe, at best, they really believe in neoliberal ideology and think this shit makes their lives better, but I doubt it. I think they're just disgusting hollow shells with no ideology, no core morals or beliefs, they just exist to point out what they think are hypocrisies or whatever will get them the most clicks and views.

They're shills for capitalism, liberalism, and death, ultimately. They sell western populations the idea that death abroad is fine. And here are five reasons why we must bomb Gaza, Yemen, whatever.

All of the pro-Iraq War salesman like Frum, Ygelias (again, dumb name) should've been tried and hanged as war propagandists (legally, of course, calm down libs. At the Hague!) 20 years ago. There's obviously a long list BEFORE them, but they should've been on that list. At least stiff sentences. Instead they all have microblogs, nice LA or NYC apartments and homes, and will never face a day of justice in this lifetime (probably, although, who knows). And the list of people who should've been tried before them includes (they're dead already so caaaaaaalm down NSA) Rummy, Powell, and other names I'm not gonna type alongside the phrase "legally executed." Coworkers of theirs though, one could say.
