You're way overthinking this, if you want to put your feet up you can always take your shoes off at this moment. Not sure why your mind is boggled by this.
But where do you put your shoes then, you're sitting on the couch. Isn't it far easier to just remove your shoes as soon as you get in? Then you totally avoid this step.
At that point, I would just kick them off right there. Sometimes I take them off right when I come in, especially if its raining or muddy outside. But if the shoes are clean there's no reason it's necessary.
Wait... You guys walk around the house with your shoes on? :warf-wtf:
Imagine contaminating your upholstery with the disgusting shit your grubby shoes pick off the street
you dont put them on the furniture...
Imagine not being able to curl up on the sofa because you can't put your feet on the furniture

Once your shoes have touched the ground outside they will never be clean again
People spit on the sidewalk and dogs piss and shit on it
if I stepped in dog shit I'm sure I would take my shoes off and clean them rather than walk around my house in it.
Oh, but so many Americans do.
