I'm getting strong vibes of post-9/11 fervor, just with a slightly less obviously racist veneer (still racist, though). People in this state of xenophobic groupthink would absolutely support violence against China and there would be zero barrier to manufacturing their consent for debilitating sanctions, covert operations, and proxy wars. China's relatively strong position will preclude anything too direct for a while, but please consider that this will probably be the central international tendency against which we (members of the imperial core - apologies to comrades outside of it) must organize.

Please consider joining your local socialist organization(s) and taking part in their anti-war/international committee.

I like the guy further down in the comments offering an example of the post happening in German television and the replies are like:

Oh my god that's got to be one of the funniest thing I've seen all week , just the silence preceding the shot of that ominous CD making it's way to the contestant.

Lol “ominous” is exactly the right word. I must have laughed for a week straight after I saw that.

that was freaking hilarious. Thank you

Part of me wonders if this is less Orwellian and just the german people having a great sense of humor.

    :fry:

Right? Just above is someone saying this is like black mirror. Then the one non-sinophobe pointing out that the social credit system doesn't exist like Westerners think it does, providing two lib-friendly sources, has a -400 score or so right now.

Libs clutching hard to their sinophobia won't even listen to their own authorities just like chuds booing Trump when he goes off of their script.

Same three or four "dunks" every time. Maybe I shouldn't get so mad at people being aggressively dumb but some friggin international cooperation in the face of eco disaster would be cool

    Someone gave context:

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I believe the blurred person is Huo Zun, who recently got exposed by his ex girlfriend for being a bad boyfriend and for talking shit about other celebrities. He didn't do any illegal, but he has stepped down from the show and has quit the entertainment industry from all the public backlash.

Wow. So the dude who's blurred is just kinda a shithead and likely asked for himself to be blurred/didn't sign the release forms because he stepped down and they blurred him. This is literally standard procedure all over the world. If someone doesn't sign a release form, you have to blur them.

manufacturing their consent for debilitating sanctions, covert operations, and proxy wars

I mean, :reddit-logo: is calling for all-out nuclear war with China on a daily basis, so I'd say consent has already been thoroughly manufactured.

We need to manufacture a safe-word because these lunatics don't know where to stop.

Don't tempt me to read reddit comments about China :internet-delenda-est:

Half the comments talking about how other countries have done the exact same thing, half talking about how uniquely evil the ccp is for doing this.

Discussing China on Reddit is always a lost cause. They want to believe China is the evil entity they think it is and anything confirming that will always be sufficient enough.

If they truly believe that China is doing an actual genocide, then theres nothing you can say to dissuade them.

It really feels astroturfed. Like whenever a post like this is made, the first 2 hours are just insane whinnie the Pooh jokes and sinophobia, but after that the ratio rapidly shifts to people mocking the sinophobes and getting more engagement/upvotes.

The first death throes of this particular empire could be wild, though. We should be careful to not assume any kind of rational action, even in the sociopathic self-interested form. The strength of the Chinese position is consoling, though.

Nah, the post-9/11 fever gripped everyone. It was all anyone could talk about. Meanwhile there's not really that many people in the US with strong opinions about China, and fewer still who want to start a war with them.

Nerds on reddit aren't even like 1% of the population.

I think they're a pretty good barometer for the 20-40 year old American dude demographic.

Their sinophobia wouldn't translate to personal action but that's kind of a danger in itself. They only need to be passive for serious violence to happen.
