Yes, they do need to make a movie featuring a “brave Republic of China soldier fighting the Revolutionary Army” aka that RoC soldier bravely executing labor organizers, peasant leaders and any other suspected commie in Shanghai at 1927.

At this point, if the USSR were still around, I’d expect libs to want to idolize the White Army to own the commies. Maybe talk about how “Supreme Commander” Alexander Kolchak wanted to institute democracy and freedom and stuff before Lenin ruined everything. If only they had committed another pogrom or five, then they could have succeeded!

The KMT, like all White movements, were their own worst enemy. It's hard to say the commies are bad when you're kidnapping every male of military age and forcing them into the army. When your own commanders rip the commoners off on rice and fuel, and they break into your house in a drunken stupor and rape your daughter. It's no secret why the KMT lost.

There were also communists and communist sympathizers in the KMT. They would divert badly needed supplies to the wrong destination, sabotage vehicles, deliberately surrender garrisons, etc. Mao understood this and relentlessly purged internal enemies for the rest of his life.
