that shit was cool, real unique media experience. just thinking about it because I'm listening to "reverse transmission" which is by a lot of the same people.
It'd just come on and fucking your late teens/early twenties brain the hell out when you were peak stoned and not expecting it. Absolutely nailing a target audience in a way that maybe no one else has before.
I woke up at 3am after falling asleep on the couch and Xavier: Renegade Angel was playing, I thought I was in the middle of a fever dream.
Assuming you're talking about stuff like Too Many Cooks? My favorite was Unedited Footage of a Bear
Yep Alan Resnik, Dan O'Brien, and the rest of Wham City Comedy.
The audiobook I'm referencing "reverse transmission" is by them as well, it's good if you're into that sort of thing.
A relic of a bygone age. Now people would just set their DVRs.
Yeah, back then you could set your VCR to record, but nobody did. Except me. Sometimes people would get freaked by the VCR coming on by itself. And after a while, you had a whole tape full of episodes if you wanted to re-watch. I remember amazing people at one late night stoner party with my Beavis and Butthead tape. I was like, dude we've been able to do this since the 70s. 🤐
Off the Air literally fucked up my brain when I would watch that and shroom.
Alan Resnick's stuff is really cool, I recently checked out This House Has People in it which is really well done. It's just this one 11 minute video but within it there is a path to an ARG which eventually leads to a database containing hours of additional content and puzzles, if you don't have the time to invest I highly recommend checking out an explanation video like this one , it was really neat and it seems like there's more to be solved.
Yeah I've been following night mind forever for this stuff lol.
I just remember when they would do unscheduled premiers, ala Frisky Dingo.
The Onion did this beautifully a few years ago:

The best bit was every time you refreshed the page it showed you a different video clip.
All of the Alan Resnick content was so good. He also did Alantutorial: https://www.youtube.com/user/alantutorial
Yep, seen it all. The audiobook "reverse transmission" inspired this post and it's by all of the same people including Resnik
