This is just good advice though heating a whole house when you only need to put a jumper on is very wasteful

If all were required to cut back according to the needs of the many, sure. But you know this is just them telling poor people “hey you can freeze a little bit!” while the wealthy leave the heaters on in their vacant mansions for months on end.

Who said anything about freezing just put a jumper on instead of turning on the heating it's literally not even an inconvenience

“Everyone could see their breath in the morning” sounds a bit colder than just putting on a jumper. Yes, conservation is good but this type of conservation can’t solve the problem. It strike me more as just blaming people.

Man I've literally slept outside being able to see your breath because you're cold is not a big deal

I’ve gone days without food but I wouldn’t recommend this as a societal guideline for people. People have different comfort levels as well, maybe you’re more tolerant of cold.

The article is only talking about being slightly cold though it's not dangerous at all it's at most being mildly uncomfortable for a while

I just can’t abide a society telling me, “Sorry you have to shiver in the cold — heating your apartment is a luxury we can’t afford” then in the next breath say “Now, watch this new show about people who race Ferraris!”

We’re not going to conserve our way out of this, imo. This is just the rulers telling us to be more miserable during the decline.

This just sounds like you pointing to something wasteful someone else is doing as an excuse to do something wasteful yourself

excessively heating your home is bad, but burning fuel for warmth is literally what got civilization started and we should make sure everyone is able to heat their homes to a reasonably comfortable level.

Did not expect to see an anti heating take on this site.

Guess it's only a matter of time before the "do not become addicted to the water" joke is no longer satire.

What difference does it make if I go to bed cold for months on end? I avoid consuming a certain amount of energy. But if we’re just going to keep consuming and polluting and killing — it’s hard for me to see what I’ve accomplished by this act of conservation.

If there were an apparatus to make sure these efforts counted for something, I’d be more on board. But I don’t think there is.
