I mean, has it actually been a major player beyond the 16th Century? My understanding is that it's spent its existence since as an Austrian subject, then a supposedly-equal partner, then an on-off Secondary Power in Eastern Europe, at most. Pardon my ignorance if I'm leaving something out.

It was a hotbed of revolutionary energy during 1848 and was able to bully the Hapsburgs into renaming it the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Vienna wasn't exactly at its peak anymore, but it's still a baller power move. Plus Hunagarian composers from the 19th century are 🔥🔥🔥.
