    I agree with the first part, Post-Mao China was moving towards Capitalism, and Xi has been reigning it back. A lot of people view the Deng to Xi period as a perfect continuity but there was a lot of contingency in there. As to what the Future holds I haven't read nearly enough about modern China to say.

      i think its mostly the jiang zemin era that totally dropped tha ball. getting capitalists into the party and all that. fuck him. jintao is like a total non-person. nice guy but. also ive heard somebody claim that zemin was ruling behind jintaos face the whole time. so i dont think deng era is that critiqueworthy, its just that they spiralled the wrong direction after him and is being corrected now

        hu jintao was alright, china's image in the imperial core was best under his tenure. most of the corruption that xi had to clean up originates from jiang zemin and if u were looking at china at the time I think it absolutely would have been fair to say they had fallen to capitalist roaders.
