Fuuuck. Why did I keep reading this thread?

Some pretty funny nonsense like: Don't go to china. Don't ever go to China or you'll be arrested on the airport. This is Serious, because you can be arrested in China if you have criticized them on the internet before. Please avoid going to China in the future, you actually can be arrested for it.

but just a couple clicks away to:

People are not executed without trial in the US “fairly regularly”

    :desolate:

Alternatively, do they realize how hard it is to get a visa to even be allowed to enter the US if you aren't from a developed country? If you don't have a passport from the Anglosphere, Japan, Korea, Chile, or the (most of the) EU, you need to apply to the State department to be allowed into the country. If you violate that law, or if you overstay your visa, you will be banned from entry for a very long time. The US routinely denies well over 20% of visa applications, and for nationals of certain countries, it's closer to 50%.

Foreign nationals attempting to enter the United States, legally and illegally, are frequently subjected to long detention periods, sometimes in barbaric conditions, often for charges they barely understand and are barely explained to them. While in the United States, foreign nationals, even those with permanent residence visas, are subject to near-constant surveillence by internal security forces and secret police. In some districts (most notably Mari-co-pa county, Ari-ZO-na province), local paramilitary groups - known as "sheriffs deputies" or "The Law" in local dialect - have leeway to ask individuals their immigration status and may take enforcement actions.

You can tell they're a g*mer, because they clearly never go outside or pay attention to reality.

They're shot in the street or in their car or in their home! Totally different from being executed! A judge never even gets involved until afterward to rule the officer that did it not guilty!

I'm always fascinated by the people who think their Huawei phone is going to put them into some sort of Chinese extraordinary rendition database when we literally have powerpoint slides from the NSA which demonstrate they've been doing this in collaboration with every major US technology firm for 20 years.

If we were to accept the worldview of these people - that the US is a liberal democratic utopia and China is fascist - I'd still rather be spied on by the guys way over there than the people who could cut my break lines in the middle of the night.

Just last week there was a story about Google flagging certain search terms for the cops!

US companies have the option to tell the government to fuck off

At which point the feds find other ways to collect the data anyway.

I almost wish that the great firewall would come down so that dumb shit like that reddit post would get downvoted to like -4 million..... BUT if I am china, no way in hell am I exposing my citizens to western internet brainworms

The great firewall definitely works as a double edged sword. I wonder if western social media companies realize this.

Companies like reddit and twitter would almost certainly go totally mask off about their racism if over a hundred million dedicated communists from China suddenly joined the English speaking part of the internet.

I could see them blanket banning all Chinese IPs and giving an option report accounts you suspect are Chinese users on a VPN.

giving an option report accounts you suspect are Chinese users on a VPN.

They have been doing this with AI for years already. Even when I was a radlib, I noticed them shadow-deleting individual comments (too quickly to be human) if they were too radical or suggested people take things into their own hands. Even the critical-tech reporting is far behind the state of modern censorship.

Even if I believed in this kind of shit I would trust a phone monitored by China over those made by western brands.

Cause when the fuck would I go to China if I believed all of this shit was going down over there? I'd just never go there, even in the wildest accusations I've never seen any of them just kidnapping westerners for saying China bad.

    1. Nobody can enter China. Residents only.

    2. Nobody in China cares what you say in English.
