Not like I'll ever retire under late capitalism
We are expected to constantly be buying treats otherwise the economy collapses, but it’s also irresponsible for us to buy treats?
My retirement plan is something along the lines of "die in the revolution/water wars/anticommunist death camps" anyway.
"Where do you see yourself at retirement age?"
"Hmm, probably that movie The Road, pushing a shopping cart full of junk through the climate apocalypse wasteland running from cannibals."
I was gonna say that phones are basically a necessity in modern day but who tf is buying them for 1000$
Yeah. Projecting $1000 into $17000 is stupid but the amount of people in twitter replies to this article going "no, no, a $1000 iPhone is nessesary in a modern society, accept no substitutes" is baffling. Americans, I guess.
Any modern phone over $100 will play 1080p video.
If you don't play 3D games on your phone or use the camera much there really isn't any reason to pay more.
Do nothing that allows you to enjoy life. Save all your money for the last few years of your existence. Then when you're old and you don't have any money because the economy shit the bed again and lost most of it, you can just starve and be angry that you never enjoyed life and now you don't even have pictures you look at and remember the good times because some smug asshole who easily blows through $1,000 a month on pointless shit told you to buy a flip phone instead of one with a camera.
There's a good Marx quote somewhere about how capitalism prides itself in offering luxuries, but then shame workers who partake in them. Idk much more about it but it's a good quote
i beg of you good people to recognize the million reasons for why this article is trash, none of which is that iPhones are good or necessary
Buying a $1,000 iPhone
Oh... So the "tech fix" section is dedicated to creative works of fiction I see.
These fucking slippery fucks never talk about how much $17 000 will be worth by the time you retire
No one who seriously looks at the world economy thinks that we have another 50 years of "business as usual", when are these people going to realize that the line can't keep going up forever?
Dunno about you but that's a lot of coffee. And I like coffee.

Been thinking about trying some of their beans. I wonder if it's like earthy like sumatra, or more of a fruity bean like Columbian
Financial literacy mean never changing your 401k contributions and never financing anything, apparently.
I mean I think it's fine if you keep the iphone for half a decade but I think the article is more addressed for people who upgrade every 2 years when their phone plan let's them
