John Pilger, the renowned Australia-born investigative journalist who was a trenchant critic of the West’s “imperialist” foreign policy, has died at age 84.
I know him best from this lecture.
Propaganda in liberal democracies like America and Britain is much more thorough than in dictatorships and totalitarian states. [...] [T]he conformity of information and opinion is insidious. Its sameness implicit, ingrained, and even celebrated.
I just came here to post the same sad news.
I don’t know too much about him as a person but as he gained his fame for outspoken and uncomfortable journalism on the political and economic injustices in the world and critiquing American Brittish and Australian domestic and foreign policy, I can only say it’s a great loss to see him go.
Condolences to his family and friends.
Felt like we weren't seeing him enough since October RIP Edit: sad emoji felt disprectful.
Pilger was one of the great Western documentarians that covered US Imperialism. Rest in Power to a real one!
Pilger was one of the very best journalists we had. His work inspired and radicalised thousands. RIP.
It was one of his articles that first radicalized me (https://johnpilger.com/articles/a-world-war-has-begun-break-the-silence-) back in 2016. Made me realize as a 17 year old that I didn't have to buy into the bipartisan spectacle. RIP.
Aw, damn. Worst news of 2024 so far.
I would use his documentary The War on Democracy to convince people of US foreign policy not caring about democracy but actually being imperialist, capitalist dogshit while Chavez and Castro are radical chads.
RIP
