The previous thread dunking on this lacked context and has been removed by the mods (for sectarianism in the post-text). @invalidusernamelol (who wasn't OP) provided added context just before the thread was removed, which I think deserves its own thread to clear up some of the questions that came up.

https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/3aORDGFBQG.png - user complains about "tankies" "[justifying] a genocide", Discord mod agrees and threatens to ban the "tankie".

https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/RGIHhkkpa4.jpg - "tankie" in question's messages "[justfying] a genocide".

Unfortunate if this is the stance of the moderators of the Discord.

Edited to clarify I didn't mean the Hexbear moderators - thanks to @WhyEssEff for letting me know how this read.

It makes it so they have to modify the code to remove it if they want to set up a Lemmy instance. I think it also just makes them mad and pushes them away from picking Lemmy for their websites.

Wouldn't a non-hardcoded one also involve that? Or couldn't they just have both? :thinkin-lenin:

Well, their stated intent when asked was to make it harder to remove. But yeah, it's a bit primitive. To be honest, I like it because it gets the libertarians mad. :ancap-good:

because it gets the libertarians mad.

an important goal in and of itself :ancap-good:
