Not really, not at all the same thing. I'd compare the pejorative use of "autistic" to the former pejorative use of "gay". IMO the main feature of the pejorative usage is that it is an identity trait that is intrinsic — if you are aren't a member of the group you will always be "above" it, so when you're using either as an insult it isn't a danger to you. Anyone can do cringe.
