Ah, but they couldn't, mostly because they had been doing excessive spending at home in order to maintain their political facades ( a.k.a. domination of the local political scene) and that with a good dose of racism (culturalism?) prevented them from scaling down at the core to maintain actual material domination.

You see, the biggest problem is they didn't have modern industry and thus realized that money is fake.

"Make sure you always pay your soldiers" seems to be one of the most timeless pieces of advice for rulers.

Loved when Shaun made a video breaking down this argument. He used the same logic to say that Nazi Germany fell because of British and American immigrants pouring in through the beaches of Normandy.

I'm pretty sure it was actually because of Soviet immigrants pouring in through the eastern border.

When Gaul sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

British Man: I love Roman history, and relating any modern event in Britain to it constantly.

Boudica: My biggest mistake was not killing every Roman I encountered, immediately.

While his country is falling apart and his people are no longer able to get the treats they feel entitled to, the Br*tish leader is framing immigrants as an imminent existential threat to civilization, a threat of epic proportions.

I'm afraid Europe hasn't had its last pogroms or its last genocide. This continent is sick and evil.

This is why I don't understand why people are up in arms about kids not being taught "classical history" anymore. We keep getting these mindnumbing arguments from people who have gone to all the fanciest schools and had to read Virgil in latin. It is evidently a waste of time other than to make people who couldn't afford going there think you're clever.
