Cossacks, Tolstoy. One of my favorite books ever written, extremely short--probably around ~150 pages or so.

There's some context required, to understand the cultural implications of various conflicts--the novel does revolve around a comparison between the titular Cossack's society and Russian Society--but it's strong regardless.

Grab a Philip K Dick collection

I feel like I had this collection in school which had Minority Report, We Can Remember It for You Wholesale (aka Total Recall), The Electric Ant and Second Variety which are all bangers

It's missing Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (aka Blade Runner), but that's one of his longer ones (still like 200 pages) so is usually it's own book

“I’m Thinking of Ending Things” by Iain Reid is a really good short read, only about 200 pages if I remember right. Just be prepared for some pretty heavy themes.

A Grain of Wheat by Ngugi wa Thiongo is pretty short, google says its 247 pages long. Fantastic book about the Kenyan "Emergency" and the Independence won thereafter. Short but potent stuff.

    Petronius' Satyricon

I Iove recommending this book. It's funny, and provides real insight into the historical conditions that lower classes lived during the Roman Empire.

    It's like, 140 pages

Jorge Luis Borges wrote short stories because he respects readers.

Forgot about the short stories! Nightfall by Asimov is awesome. Have not read the one you mentioned it’s been awhile I’ll have to look it up.
