I love the idea of hundreds of small civilizations whose only record of existing is like going to war with Rome/Byzantine Empire or something having an accurate tally of all trades that occur domestically.
All the people in the comments saying "don't worry we're on track to fix it it's actually all fine stop worrying"
That's a big problem we have in modern western societies, except maybe collapsing ones like the US.
