I was thinking of donating a modest amount of money to the Red Cross for relief efforts (probably like 20€/$22.16 since I don't have that much) as short of actually driving all the way to my relatives in far eastern Poland and directly helping the people there, I can't do much (even ignoring all the issues like my mental health or my local orgs being radlibby).

Think it's a good idea, comrades?

    Kherson

"A survey conducted in December 2014 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology found 1% of the oblast's population supported their region joining Russia, 94.9% did not support the idea, and the rest were undecided or did not respond." - Wikipedia

    Source in Russian (probably)

Edit: Yes it's russian (translated by a comrade):

The question:* What's your opinion on the decision of your region separating from Ukraine and joining Russia?

Responses (top to bottom): Unquestionably support; Probably support; Hard to say, partially support/oppose; Probably oppose; Unquestionably oppose; Refuse to respond.

Regions (left to right): Ukraine; Dnepropetrovsk; Donetsk; Zaporozhe; Lugansk; Nikolayevsk; Odessa; Kharkiv; Kherson; Galichina; Zakarpattia; Chernivtsi.

I was assuming you were saying "haha Poland sucks, they should be annexed by based Russia"

But whatever, Russia annexing Ukraine in any way or calling it "West Russia" is not feasible in any way and if you've been following along Russian press releases or any kind of statements from their leadership, you'd know they don't plan to do so anyway.

Also gj for using ableist language /s

None. Maybe a few chuds might organize a prayer wall along the border or something, like they did 7 years ago lmao, but not even the average chud in Poland thinks the country should claim Kresy again

Glasnost would have been better if the CPSU had allowed freedom of speech and similar within the bounds of socialist ideologies, like liberals do (dissenting ideologies aren't outright banned, but seeing anything but forms of liberalism in the media and popular consciousness is very rare). Obviously, this isn't a sure fix and would have its own problems, but yeah.

Unfortunately, Gorbachev & pals were libs, so they went for socdems, libs and various kinds of horrible nationalistic ghouls. Which coupled with the chaos of the market reforms, guess who profited from?

Prawo i Sprawiedliwosc, the ruling party of Poland.

National Conservatism, Authoritarian, Capitalism, Political Christianity and Polish Nationalism are among the most important elements of their ideology.

In recent years they're known for restricting press freedom for no reason than to entrench their power, Natalist policies (+ : Larger Subsidies for families | - : Attempted Full ban on Abortion), Creating pro-government far-right paramilitaries, reacting militarily to the Belarus border crisis last year (because brown people scary), attempting to ban the Communist Party of Poland and other stuff

Lol that's literally Nazi Propaganda about the WW2 Polish Army (well, almost. They said the Poles did cavalry charges against the so advanced German tanks)

Horses, sure, but also "motorized cavalry", horses hauling artillery etc. and normal tank divisions .

Germany had the advantage sure, but the actual tech difference was probably pretty similar to the obsolete equipment wielding current Russian troop deployments vs the Ukrainian forces equipped with modern weapons. Otoh, the same is also true for the modernized Russian divisions sure to cross over the border eventually vs the bulk of the Ukrainian army which probably still has 1980s equipment due to the massive economic troubles in the country since then.
