We’ve long plateaued but are still extremely active and our post quality only gets better with each enforced degrowth (lib purge). Capitalism owned.

As an old poster, I can confirm we have enough of a thing here to keep going till the servers burn out. There's still niche BBS boards out there with a few dozen users that have been posting for 3 decades.

I like it here, I think I'll stay a for bit.

It also seems like we're still (slowly) growing. The site didn't used to go above 500 for a number of months and has now crept up to a little over 600 on a busy day.

The real trap is viewing things strictly in terms of centralized growth/degrowth. It views platforms as atomized and promotes the idea that they’re in competition. The reality of social networks irl is that many connections are redundant via mutual friends, interests, stomping grounds, etc. And activist networks do tend to form ‘cliques’, but that itself is a word that implies competition and division. But when these networks split, individuals in them will still retain their other mutual connections with the other side of the split. So your network hasn’t shrunk by half. It’s gained a second center.

Taking the situation and looking at it through a non-hierarchical lens makes that situation a lot less catastrophic. This sort of change can and should be pursued by the left online. I have people that, despite having deleted their Hexbear accounts and us not talking in over a year, I have several ways I could contact. If I ever join a project that their skills would be useful for, they’re not just some anonymous person I used to talk to. This kind of connection is the one that social infrastructure is built on. And it’s the kind that social media discourages because it limits their ability to unilaterally direct your attention where it’s profitable

I really need to get my shit together and learn how to edit out the backgrounds the right way but I've been lazy. As soon as I do, I'll be adding as many emotes as I can.

        1. Right click the layer, add mask (full opacity)

        2. Select the mask layer

        3. Select the brush tool, select the "75% hardness" preset, and set the brush color to pure black

        4. Trace out the edges of the image

        5. If you mess up, switch to pure white (note the 'x' key swaps the two colors) and it'll un-erase

        6. You can fiddle with the brush size/hardness settings if you have fiddly details to work with

all of the misguided nerds comrades who have voiced their concerns about the site dying song seem to get this. a community doesn't have to rapidly grow to be successful. the fact that we have a community of people that recognize the regulars and interact on as much of a personal level as we can is a win imo

Alright, dude. You’ve been banned at least 20 times at this point. You obviously don’t like the admin team and despite that, all alts considered, you are easily one of our most active posters. You have no problem posting normally all day every day until meta discussion comes up and then it’s vagueposting and agitation left and right. I could ban you and you’d just come back and post normally for another month until something else came up. If you want us to play whack-a-mole with your alts, that’s fine. We have the resources and obviously so do you. But is there anything we can do to make this shit less aggressive and weird? You obviously care about the community. So let’s talk

You could begin by taking action in this very thread against those who've insulted me for absolutely no reason. I've been banned for less than what I've been subjected to right here.

Okay. Not usually something I’m responsible for, but I removed a few of the ones that still remained and seemed aggressive. So what’s up? Do you have any particular problems with the site?

I mean, sure, there are power users who all interact with each other constantly. But I’ve never seen it get to a point where it becomes exclusionary. People are free to post as much or as little as they want, and prompt discussion either way, as long as it isn’t a dumb take or wrecker or anything.

I mean yes it's a bit cilqueish, and that does suck a bit, but what did you expect from an obscure leftist forum? It's much better than discord at least.
