This shit is so obvious. She has literally been seen in public multiple times and has made statements on her well being. But everything she says is instantly met with claims from the western media that she was brainwashed or coerced into saying it.

The translation mentioned an instance of sexual harassment after he tried to re-start their relationship, but she seemed to make it out to be consensual. Like they spent time together. She was just his mistress and his wife was not happy about it which led to some bad things.

I wouldn't be surprised if the politician in question was asked to step down because this came to light and they all agreed to keep it quiet initially.

It's definitely a lot more complicated than it's being presented. In fact she might be trying to maintain a low profile because she doesn't want to relive this and saw how quick the Western media turned her suffering into a propaganda tool.

No, he stepped down in 2018 seems like he was hit with anti-corruption stuff. Dude was in the Panama papers.

It actually seems that all this happened after he retired

Zhang, 75, was accused earlier this month by Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai, 35, of sexual assault at his home after he retired three years ago. The two-time Grand Slam doubles champion also alleged a relationship with Zhang over an intermittent period that spanned at least a decade.

So I don't see why the party would cover this up seeing as how he's both corrupt and retired...

Maybe it broke laws against slander? Remember, even if SA was not alleged, everything else hasn't been proven either.

Could be, it's definitely got the feeling that something is being done about it. Honestly with his history of corruption, they might be using her case to build a more heavy handed punishment for him. Who knows.

She's definitely alive and not under any serious duress, so I wonder if the state investigators just asked her to remain silent while they investigate. That seems like standard procedure in most countries.

They might do an investigation for corruption, but adultery? Does she even want an investigation if she was just venting on social media about being cheated and didn't go to the authorities to accuse the guy of anything?

I have no idea, she did include the instace of sexual assault in her claim that they might be taking seriously. We really don't know much about it and she has basically dropped off social media which makes me think that she's laying low to either avoid attention or at the request of investigators that are building a case.

iirc, there were some questions about the typically accepted translation; I recall seeing an account that, translated properly, it translated to her regretting the affair due to his marriage, and it did not contain the sexual assault (apparently, that was a point of contention for the translation).

Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck finding it (it was part of a controversial post on a tennis subreddit iirc)
