That doesn't mean anything. It could be a company searches your name on LinkedIn, find your posts, and tosses your resume into the trash. It's really insidious because you would never even know that the reason you can't find a job is because of a political opinion you posted.

The modern job market is a fucking panopticon.

I don't know enough about Linkedin to say for sure, but I've never once made a post of my own there - only commented on other people's posts occasionally. I'll have to fuck with my privacy settings or something to see if I can make it so people I'm not connected to can't see comments.

I have no reservations with that, but I feel like it just might not be very fun for other people to read. I only go on LinkedIn once every few months when I'm looking for a job, and then wont touch it for a long time, on top of refusing to actually interact with that person. So it'd just be like him posting a status of "um akshually its hypocritical for other countries to criticize israel when they have done bad things too" with a reply by me of saying "get fucked zionist, dont have those kids you talk about wanting, you'll just raise them to be shitty hatemongering zionists like you" and then I fuck off for 6 months.

That seems very coercive to me. I don’t believe that he didn’t rape her I know he did speaking as someone who has been molested there is no way she lied about him raping her.

After dinner, I was still not willing to have sex. You said you hated me. You said in those seven years, you never forgot about me, and you will treat me well etc…. I was terrified and anxious. Taking into consideration the affection I had for you seven years ago, I agreed… yes, we had sex. Romantic attraction is such a complicated thing [to] explain it clearly. From that day on, I renewed my love for you.

That seems to be the part of her letter that is being deemed "sexual assault" and by no means does that sound anything like sexual assault. It sounds like two people in a very long and complicated relationship dealing with complex emotions. Romance is a messy thing sometimes. Even she says that herself: "Romantic attraction is such a complicated thing [to] explain it clearly."

Zhang is a piece of shit, but Peng’s testimony makes it clear that he did not commit physical violence of any kind against her.

What kind of goal post is that? A powerful government official pressuring an emotionally distressed woman into having sex, especially after an initial rejection, is rape. You cannot possibly call this "consensual".

Nobody cares about what exactly happened, some form of abuse took place and after speaking out about it, Peng Shuai's post was quickly deleted, she went into hiding and later stated the accusations were untrue.

Maybe there's some bulletproof evidence that I've missed here but I'm frankly alarmed that people are this dismissive of the case. You guys remember what "critical support" means, right?

The way you to describe it makes it seem like they hadn't been in an on again, off again relationship for a decade. They started having an affair a decade ago which continued until Zhang got promoted. After his promotion, it was broken off and they fell out of contact. Then he retired and resumed the affair.

[https://www.moonofalabama.org/2021/11/new-york-times-invents-sexual-assault-case-to-blame-china.html#more](Here is what appears to be a much more honest translation of everything.)

It's complicated and messy and there absolutely are some questions about the power dynamic that shouldn't be overlooked, but this is not sexual assault. And more importantly, she was not disappeared or never went into hiding and seems to be fine.

Based on relatively accurate translations it seems like they had relationship in the past and after 7 years they met on his initiative and he hit on her wanting to have sex . She was very unsure and emotionaly distressed but still having strong feeligs for him. She didnt want to initialy but he was somewhat emotionaly manipulative and so later she agreed and had sex . Then they had again a short affair that was relatively good/happy on an interpersonal level level but there was big pressure on her to keep it secret and to avoid any public notice and was taking a big toll on her and then he left her and pretended as nothing happened when some issues and tensions started rising. So of at least he behaved as a piece of shit and if he wasnt retired already he should have been fired and expelled from his positions

The translation mentioned an instance of sexual harassment after he tried to re-start their relationship, but she seemed to make it out to be consensual. Like they spent time together. She was just his mistress and his wife was not happy about it which led to some bad things.

I wouldn't be surprised if the politician in question was asked to step down because this came to light and they all agreed to keep it quiet initially.

It's definitely a lot more complicated than it's being presented. In fact she might be trying to maintain a low profile because she doesn't want to relive this and saw how quick the Western media turned her suffering into a propaganda tool.

No, he stepped down in 2018 seems like he was hit with anti-corruption stuff. Dude was in the Panama papers.

It actually seems that all this happened after he retired

Zhang, 75, was accused earlier this month by Chinese tennis star Peng Shuai, 35, of sexual assault at his home after he retired three years ago. The two-time Grand Slam doubles champion also alleged a relationship with Zhang over an intermittent period that spanned at least a decade.

So I don't see why the party would cover this up seeing as how he's both corrupt and retired...

Could be, it's definitely got the feeling that something is being done about it. Honestly with his history of corruption, they might be using her case to build a more heavy handed punishment for him. Who knows.

She's definitely alive and not under any serious duress, so I wonder if the state investigators just asked her to remain silent while they investigate. That seems like standard procedure in most countries.

I have no idea, she did include the instace of sexual assault in her claim that they might be taking seriously. We really don't know much about it and she has basically dropped off social media which makes me think that she's laying low to either avoid attention or at the request of investigators that are building a case.

In her post she said that he invited her over after they had broken things off and goaded her into sex, basically not letting her leave until they had sex. Then their relationship started back up. That is definitely sexual assault and should be taken seriously, even if they got back together after.

All I'm saying is that her claims could very well be part of a more in depth investigation into that guy and his corruption.

Because he forced her to have sex with him? This is like Monica Lewinsky level stuff. And the politician is defunct because of his corruption. Xi would absolutely not protect him, even if he was a high level officer.

Information surrounding the personal lives of senior Chinese officials is typically shrouded in secrecy, with even some of the most basic biographical information considered taboo. Under Xi, however, the supposed extravagances and misdeeds of some disgraced officials caught up in his anti-corruption campaign have been made widely public, providing a rare window into their private lives.

From CNN of all places. Just straight up admitting the contradictions.

From what I've read about Lewinsky's wikipedia, it seems she was a target of online harassment and cyber bullying. Maybe Peng was the one being protected. Admitting to being with a married man willingly as she alleged isn't going to garner much sympathy.

Re-reading the translation, she actually explicitly states that there was no forced sex. Just that one time she protested and he begged and she relented and they had sex.

The whole post reads like something written by someone who was heartbroken, not something written by someone who was assaulted. She's mad that he abandoned her and she feels used.

I can absolutely see her taking this post down herself and going to ground because of the immediate reaction to it. I'm sure a lot of people started calling her a whore and bullying her.

The only reason this is getting any traction at all right now is because the man she accused was in charge of planning the Winter Olympics until he retired in 2018.

So she "retracted" her claim of SA (as we know, her subsequent statement was consistent because she never alleged SA to begin with) and this is very suspicious therefore this proves how repressive the CPC is. This is western media's angle. Everybody here knows western media don't really give a shit about Peng or Zhang, their real target is what it's always been. The main reason this is getting any traction at all is because western media wants to undermine PRC. The guy could be completely unaffiliated with the Winter Olympics and a mountain still would've been made out of a molehill. If one were a neutral observer, they'd find it odd that the US cares more about Chinese lives than their own.

iirc, there were some questions about the typically accepted translation; I recall seeing an account that, translated properly, it translated to her regretting the affair due to his marriage, and it did not contain the sexual assault (apparently, that was a point of contention for the translation).

Unfortunately, I'm not having any luck finding it (it was part of a controversial post on a tennis subreddit iirc)
