That episode was written by an Ayn Rand worshiping psychopath and the joke at the time was about how the Dems wanted to try to save Medicare…..yes I know it’s crazy

Brad Bird, yes the same Brad Bird who did the Incredibles and Iron Giant. He is an open objectivist.

I'm not seeing Brad Bird (but maybe he wrote it as well), either way John Swartzwelder is also a libertarian weirdo as well.

IIR they use to co wrote most episodes which is why I mentioned him but was Swartzwelder is also a libertarian.

Yeah. But I think he became a bit of a recluse though, so maybe he's not the influence behind any explicitly political jokes. I mean if it comes down to an objectivist vs a guy who is I libertarianism because he really likes the idea of living alone in a cabin, the former would definitely be the likely culprit.

Eh, totally different political climate in 1994, so the joke might have a different interpretation when it first aired. The writer of the episode is a libertarian, so I don't think the intended butt of the joke is that they intentionally fail to deliver on progressive policies either. Think it's modern relevance is more of a coincidence than anything.
