I love the argument from democrats that you have to raise like 4 trillion a year for healthcare from out of nowhere. WE SPEND MORE THAN 6 TRILLION BETWEEN PRIVATE AND PUBLIC HEALTH ALREADY. Just use that money and tax a few billionares you fucking idiots.

Yes, all of the "how will you pay for it" stuff would only be a good question if healthcare was free right now.

They're kind of right in a way, I doubt Biden would have had to promise half the shit he promised in his campaign if it wasnt for Bernie running. Then he could just have run.on sensible policies like eradicating cancer I guess.

You can literally count things like bills passed. They entered office with like five fucking simultaneous emergencies shortly after a coup attempt and then let the parliamentarian shut them down. Democrats are probably going to let Roe v Wade fall while they control presidency, house, and senate. They're absolutely fucking pathetic.

That episode was written by an Ayn Rand worshiping psychopath and the joke at the time was about how the Dems wanted to try to save Medicare…..yes I know it’s crazy

Brad Bird, yes the same Brad Bird who did the Incredibles and Iron Giant. He is an open objectivist.

I'm not seeing Brad Bird (but maybe he wrote it as well), either way John Swartzwelder is also a libertarian weirdo as well.

IIR they use to co wrote most episodes which is why I mentioned him but was Swartzwelder is also a libertarian.

Yeah. But I think he became a bit of a recluse though, so maybe he's not the influence behind any explicitly political jokes. I mean if it comes down to an objectivist vs a guy who is I libertarianism because he really likes the idea of living alone in a cabin, the former would definitely be the likely culprit.

Eh, totally different political climate in 1994, so the joke might have a different interpretation when it first aired. The writer of the episode is a libertarian, so I don't think the intended butt of the joke is that they intentionally fail to deliver on progressive policies either. Think it's modern relevance is more of a coincidence than anything.

bro this ain't my first democratic majority rodeo.

the Clinton majority had blue dog democrats that blocked everything

    Obama's mandate had Lieberman

now we have machin and sinema

No matter how many seats the dems get they will come up with just enough "moderate" seats to do nothing

why the fuck would I support this BS party

"You succs can't demand anything because you have no power!"

"Okay, we'll stay home on election day."

"IF YOU DO IT'S YOUR FAULT DEMS LOST!"

"Okay then give us a reason vote for you."

"No, you succs can't demand anything because you have no power!"

This on a loop until the atmosphere catches on fire.

He could fix that by, yknow, doing things. Like - things that he doesn’t need Congress to do.

i guarantee you could reply to this with "we need to convince people that better things aren't possible so they'll give up and vote for us before we can do anything positive" and they'd respond with some kind of biden chad yes wojak.

Once again the issue is the messaging of people with basically no influence on media or the party. Definitely not the people who have all the power and media exposure.

A solid 4% of otherwise Dem voters consistently telling Dems to fuck themselves would end the party. If only Western lefties were less lib.

If that 4% never votes for them, they won't be able to ratchet back - especially if that segment is disciplined and recruits others to the cause.

They'd have to actually win over Republicans, and the more they lost the more a third party + crisis would take over.

If that 4% never votes for them

Something like 30-50% of eligible voters don't. The old Beto strategy was to capture these dormant voters and flip Texas. But it turns out there are as many disaffected Republicans as Democrats.

Well yes, that's how you get 4% of otherwise Dem voters to not simply vote against the opposition. They would need to have already exited the dominant strategic voting paradigm, likely being socialists.

This will already happen if we are in any way successful at growing the ranks. Principled socialists will not vote for bourgeois politicians. If we can get those numbers up, up, up, it'll cause exactly this crisis.

The idea of the third party centers around what it even is and whether it resolves the crisis. Don't assume it will work out analogous to 1910s Russia. The mass psychology is different, as are relations to production. But a third party will establish a new political pole and would hopefully derive from that dedicated 4% + their previously nonvoting allies. More importantly, it would be forced into existence by the crisis and Dem reaction would be difficult to predict from our current vantage. A Dem party that can no longer win ever will have no ability to change ballot access or fptp rules and will therefore adopt the same status as a third party accordingly.

It's difficult to predict much more, but the logic of the crisis is sound if that critical and modest number of comrades can be established. The only question is whether it's a viable strategy that doesn't simply lead to a genocide of the left.

No young voters are 50 points down on Biden because BIDEN HIMSELF failed to keep promises and then the party proceeded to blain said young voters. Which is also why fewer and fewer young people say voting works while also being more politically active then their parents were at this age.

Edit: to add to this in the same times the Dems can’t apparently pass anything. The republicans got a god damn bill ending the vaccine mandate for federal employees passed in the senate. So even when the Dems control everything THEY STILL CANT DO ANYTHING. the thing is that everyone can see this now. Biden support is down in suburbs and amongst boomers who hate trump even more then before according to PEW because it’s impossible to not see the complete failure to pass anything after the Dems shot their load so much during the election as anything other then a failure
