"Given market economics, you might have to pay more for NFT Mario than for, say, NFT Peach. But then you’d also earn more, because here in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario is the fastest player. When you step out of the game and back into your day job, you still own Mario. When you start playing again, Mario is there, waiting for you. Waiting to earn you Mariocoins.

You can sell Mario to another player if you like. If you’ve played Mario right, he might be worth more now than when you bought him. Maybe you’ve demonstrated how lucrative Mario can be. Maybe more people want to play Mario Kart. Maybe Mariocoin has soared in value because everybody is talking about it on social media. "

Who would want to play Mario Kart if some kiddie creeping video card hoarder bought an advantage and farmed it every race? I don't know if I want the answer to that question. :desolate:

They're goofy as shit that I just want to laugh at them, but I know full well the threat they pose if they take off.

I could go on for hours, but I think we all know just what pedophile-terrorist-controlled ownership looks like.

Where's the profit motive in that? How do you seek rent with that? :cap-think:

I get that it's exploitative cause it's adding employment relationships to NFT bullshit, but at a very literal level what is being produced here?

Afaik the main draw of NFTs and crypto in general is that you get all the benefits (not sure what these are) and drawbacks (losing exponentially* more money than you initially paid) of speculative economics and produce nothing but carbon emissions.

Artificial scarcity and coercive rent seeking.

Disclaimer: purchasing this NFT does not give you ownership of Mario.

Disclaimer: no it doesn't even give you ownership of the picture

Disclaimer: no we can't verify this is worth anything at all

This is like the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen an nft evangelist say shit like “you’ll be able to be x bc You own the nft of x”

I’m convinced some bad peyote or something went around San Francisco a couple years ago or something and is responsible for all this shit lol

You know that I get to be Mario when I play him in Mario Kart when I pick him on the fucking select screen.

Yes, but other people can play him, too. And he won't be the FASTEST Mario. That means you won't be guaranteed to win as Mario.

But if you own an NFT of Mario, you can be the only Mario in the race. AND you are guaranteed to win. AND you get to earn money somehow. Doesn't that sound great?

Imagine a future where only XxxWhoIsJohnGaltxxX gets to select Mario.

I will laugh if there's some NFT guy who actually believes that bullshit and genuinely thinks he owns the rights to Mario because he has the NFT and tries to sue Nintendo.
