Really the only people I have to talk about one piece is in the reddit sub. It's as horrible as you'd imagine. It's the racism, homophobia, and transphobia you've come to expect from Reddit. And now everyone is shitting their pants over powerscaling. I'm sitting here worrying about this new variant just wanting to talk about how cool x character looks, and I have to see a bunch of posts whining about how someone said this character can beat this character, and it's the end of the fucking world now. Atleast when we have struggle sessions they're usually about important shit. Imagine if we deadass had a struggle sesh about beans. That's how stupid this shit is. Like people are dying climates fucked. Stop whining about who's dad can beat up who.
Whoo boy got lost there in the rant. Please anybody who is caught up in the manga respond to this post so we can talk about the new chapters every week cause I am so done with this shit.
I don’t get how many chuds love one piece.
The characters blow up a slave market and start a war against the government.
I’m doing a partial reread and I’m getting to the death of ACE.
I love how ace has a typo in his tattoo that displays how much he’s hotheaded.
Like just.. Oda’s art style is so good in that everyone is distinct and detailed but also has a cartoonish simplicity and a love of dumb gags.
I love that tattoo! It really shows what makes oda really unique. To have someones tattoo mistake be a badass character design is just great. I saw this theory once that the crossed out S is supposed to symbolize sabos death. I don't know if thats true or not but I've always liked it regardless
It could be to signify death. Or that it’s a gag!
I just read from 500 to 600 (as that’s the period around where I feel off a decade + ago) and it’s all such good shit.
The world of One Piece is just this extremely fun feeling place for so much of the book that feels almost endlessly imaginative.
I'm caught up!
Thankfully I never had to touch the one piece :reddit-logo: but if it's even a fraction of how awful anime subs usually are then i'd rather keep it this way.
Insofar as I understand you're worried that Luffy and co will be in a protracted fight which progresses through multiple stages and layers of chaos as the arc circles the drain - we are 110% in a Dressrosa situation. The thing is though: if the straw hats manage to get a W here, who the fuck is going to stop them anymore? It would be an entrance into the endgame.
Wano will probably be done around spring by my guess. We're about to start with Luffy's climatic fight for the arc and then there's a bunch of wrap up stuff after that
I'm not caught up, but I should be in like a week. I'm rereading the whole series, and I just finished Fishman Island. Took me a week to get here. I have to say One Piece is incredibly good, except for when it isn't. (Mostly stuff with Sanji)
I'm assuming you're referring to all the sexual harassment stuff. That's why I can't love Sanji that shit was wrong from the start, and never that funny as a gag.
That and the stuff with the Okamas. The stuff with Bentham and Ivankov isn't amazing, but it feels a lot less mean-spirited than the stuff with Sanji on Kamabakka. The other stuff is transphobic, but it just feels like Oda watched Rocky Horror and thought it was kind of neat. When Sanji's running from the crossdressers it just feels rancid in a way that nothing else in One Piece is even close to being.
I'm not loving Wano but I'm a spoilerslut and can't help but read weekly. I cant do one piece reddit, they misgender Yamato at best.
It could just be the weekly format, I didn't like Whole Cake Island during the weekly but on reread I liked it more
Yea the sub is horrible for that stuff. Personally I'm still a little confused on Yamato's gender as apparently there was a logbook that stated it was she, but the translation for those are never very accurate. I'll usually just use they or him for them. The sub hates that so much if anyone dares to refer to Yamato as anything other than she they get so offended and hurt. Idk why I'm surprised when anyone on Reddit is transphobic
I'm caught up! I spent this year reading and watching One Piece from the start (fell off the anime about half way through because of the pacing).
Yea I'm usually manga only for most stuff, let's me control the pace. It's easier for me to read Idk how you sit and watch through all that filler.
I'm probably 2 chapters behind because I have yet to do the simple duckduckgo search to see what time the chapters release so I continually rely on serendipity for new chapters
Hmmm maybe I'll just post the link to the new chapters on here so no one has to go to Reddit or lose track of them.
I'm not caught up but I've got the next three days off. I will do my best to read ~300 chapters and try to catch up :rat-salute:
i'm maybe one or two chapters behind and also used the reddit. i lost it a weeks or so ago when i went back and saw a thread joking about "minority hunter" zoro...
honestly, it hasn't been good since the time skip and i'm still reading it out of habit.
I think it's still pretty good, just not as good. Like, post-timeskip One Piece is still better than most shonen out there. Just not as good as it got with Ennies Lobby or Marineford.
I still enjoy it but I get liking pre better than post timeskip. There was a sense of adventure and camaraderie that isn't really there anymore Pts. And yeah the one piece sub is inherently reactionary. At best it usually just bubbles under the surface, but then it'll just explode to the top and it'll just make you hate the fans
Been reading it as it comes out since Fishman Island. Think the current arc is the best one since Marineford though, so I actually pay some attention while reading now rather than reading it out of habit.
I feel the same way idk how to describe it wano just feels epic like marineford or enies lobby does
Caught up and saw the spoilers for 1036. I don't know if you saw them, but I am curious to see how Wano unravels. I have to say that I liked how King and Queen got taken down. There were some complaints about the pacing, but I felt that it was a good step for Zoro and Sanji. They'll probably be fighting other top commanders and Admirals soon, so something like this was absolutely necessary.
Definitely liked their fights. I think one piece is better consumed to be binged instead of week to week. That way the story feels better pacing wise. All the hating on king and queens fight is one of the things that make me wanna talk about one piece more on here than on Reddit
People always complain about the arcs when they're released weekly and enjoy them more in volume format. Fishman Island and Dressrosa both got the same treatment, as did Whole Cake Island.
Yeah, it was some solid side character fights. One Piece has a giant cast its not going to give everyone a 12 chapter fight, I thought the King and Queen fights were handled well.
I like the wano arc because Im a weeaboo and I love japan. Also, Kaido has been really hype so far and Im looking forward to the climax of the arc, all the new designs have been great actually.
I'm a good ways into the Dressrosa birdcage fight in my reread now, and reading this week to week must have been torture.
edit: I finished the arc. It dragged on a bit, but less than I remembered. But even that little bit made all the bullshit that's been in the series since the beginning stand out more. I'm still enjoying it a lot, but man, all the sexism really jumps out in this arc.
